SENIOR FARMERS’ MARKET NUTRITION PROGRAM
WHAT IS SFMNP?
The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is a USDA-sponsored program administered by the Ohio Agency on Aging. The program is designed to increase consumption of fresh, nutritious, unprepared, locally-grown fruits, vegetables, herbs, and honey by Ohio Seniors, through support of farmers’ markets and roadside stands.
AM I ELIGIBLE?
You are eligible to participate in the Ohio Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program if you are 60 years of age or older and meet the income guidelines.
Applications are available here for download or through your local area agency on aging.
Participants receive $50 worth of coupons for the growing season that can be used to purchase qualified fruits and vegetables at the Market.
how does it work?
It’s simple.
VISIT - Bring your coupons to the Athens Farmers Market.
SHOP - Use your coupons like cash for eligible fruits and vegetables. (please note, farmers cannot give change and must be used by the expiration date on the coupon)
ENJOY - Fresh fruits and vegetables add flavor and variety to meals and are key to a healthy diet. Honey and fresh cut herbs are also eligible items.
Please Note: Coupons may NOT be used for: flowers, cider, cheese, bakery, dried or potted herbs, plants, nuts, crafts, preserves, eggs, syrup, dried fruits, processed or prepared foods, decorative gourds or non-local produce (pineapple, bananas, citrus, etc.).
