Know Your Vendor #6: Far Corner Farm

Know Your Farmer

Far Corner Farm sits about 2.5 miles outside of Amesville. Elise McMath is the sole gardener out there and she loves it — excpet when it is super hot. Elise focuses on the nutritional value of her food and is always looking to increase it by improving her soil health through remineralization, animal byproducts and cover crops. Far Corner Farm is chemical free and Elise sells at the market year round.

Here’s a little bit about Elise:

When did you first start attending the AFM?img_0714

I have been attending since July 2014, so a little over 2 years.

Why did you decide to start farming?

I decided to start farming because it sounded like fun.

What is your favorite thing about the AFM?

My favorite thing about the AFM is the comraderie, rubbing elbows with like-minded others, getting to earn money from how I spend my time.

What are some of your best sellers?

I know that shoppers like mushrooms, berries and squash.  I like to sell them plus potatoes, onions, sweet potatoes and garlic. These are also are my favorite things to grow.

What are some of your favorite recipes that you use with the things you grow?

I don't have favorite recipes or foods.  I cook all the time and it's always based on what I have in the garden or high tunnel.  Mostly I get to cook and eat whatever I didn't sell.

Cake or Pie?

It depends on the cake and the pie.  Generally I like savory dishes a bit more than sweets.
