Know Your Vendor
The AFM has started a new campaign to introduce our vendors to you — our customers. In a growing, globalized world where people have grown increasingly more removed from where their food comes from we think it is important to highlight those local producers and growers that go to market each week to sell us their products. Each month we will feature two vendors. We hope you get to know them a little better and learn something new. If you have any questions you are dying to ask, send a message to our facebook page.
Know Your Salsa Guru: Tom Zakany of Southwestern Style Gourmet Salsa

Q. When did you first start attending the AFM?
Q. How long have you been making salsa?
Since 1998, started selling his salsas at the North Market in Columbus first and then came down to the Athens market.
Q. What is your favorite thing to eat?
My mexican tacos with my original hot salsa. It is a friendly hot salsa, meaning that it won’t burn your mouth but brings that heat with flavor.
Q. What is your favorite thing about the AFM?
The variety of the vendors. There is just so much here to draw people in. I like working with the other vendors — different vendors grow different varieties of chilis and peppers for my salsas, like Cowdery. I’ve even hooked up Shagbark with my chip distributor — a small shop up in norhtern Ohio.
Q. What is your best seller?
The black bean and corn salsa as well as the raspberry chipotle. The college kids all know about the raspberry chipotle.
Q. Cowboys or Aliens?
Fun Fact: Tom is not the only one in his family who makes salsa. His cousin has already claimed the title Salsa King.
